The dragons return to the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie for the third annual Dutchess Dragon Boat Races and Festival.
The day begins with an opening ceremony when local elected officials will paint the eyes of the dragon to mark the beginning
of the races, which commence directly afterwards.
While the Dragon Boat Races proceed on the Hudson River, the Festival runs along the shore. Master Kwan returns for the
third year to perform the Lion Dance for the opening and closing ceremonies.
The Roadhouse Roosters will perform on the main stage this year, bringing uptempo boogie, blues and rock repertoire with
electric and acoustic slide guitar. Under the festival tent there will be art demonstrations by local artists and there will
be experiential stations for origami, kite making, calligraphy, and dragon face painting for children. Local artists will
demonstrate and exhibit their art and the Chinese food arts will be demonstrated for all to see how to make dumplings, spring
rolls and other Chinese delicacies. Community groups will be there to share information on their services and there are local
artisans selling their products.
The festival also includes local food vendors serving up fresh treats, including Twisted Soul, YumYum Noodle truck, Lemon
Love, Nino's Big Bite, Tea Talk, Reggae Boy, and Carole's Hot Dogs. The culmination of the day will be the presentation of
the Dragon Boat racing awards by Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
This event is sponsored by Dutchess Tourism and proceeds benefit Arts Mid-Hudson and Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
